A call for adoption for a cat in an instagram post by Temasek Polytechnic Veterinarian course tugged at Gladys Chia’s heartstrings. The JC2 student at Raffles Institution promptly responded to the adoption call and was excited to be a cat parent. Chia learned that the female cat was picked by a local vet when she was about 2 months old, and found injured after being stuck in a wire fence. The fact that the cat was left homeless for so long made the teenager determined to be her saviour.

When Louis first saw Toby in 2016, the mongrel appeared aggressive, had bad skin and in poor health. This is a community cat loved by all, specially doted by Fanny Liu of Immanuel Hair Salon at Toa Payoh Lorong 4. Mr Kitty aka Bao Bei would stand at the salon's entrance and entered it around 3 pm daily. He would sit on a customer's chair or below the washing bay. In the salon, he eats, grooms, take long naps and enjoys the cool air conditioning. "He is my boss. He has been going to this salon for 7 years already and he loves this neighbourhood and enjoys roaming around,” shares Liu.
