Foods safe for dogs can be people foods too!. The foods your dog eats is either healthy or harmful for them as dogs have different digestive system compared to humans. 

All dogs are different. While one dog may tolerate one food just fine, another has a bad reaction to it. Even if a food is deemed “safe” for dogs to eat, a rule of thumb is to feed it to your dog in moderation to mitigate any allergic reactions and other negative effects.

Do introduce all foods into your dog’s diet gradually. Here is a hearty list of foods both you and your furry companion can enjoy together.

01 - carrots

Both raw and cooked carrots are foods safe for dogs as a healthy treat.

Carrots are low in calories and a good source of vitamins, minerals and fiber. Do cut them in small pieces before feeding to prevent choking.

Cooked, boneless salmon is a safe and healthy source of omega-3 fatty acids, which are known to reduce inflammation and may help keep your dog’s skin and fur healthy.

Popcorns as an occasional treat gives your dog a healthy dose of phosphorous, magnesium, and calcium. Just hold the butter or salt. Butter and oil are other common popcorn ingredients that are high in fat and may lead to pancreatitis in dogs if over-consumed. Do remove all un-popped kernels which may choke them and get stuck in their teeth.

07 - pineapples

Fresh pineapple is full of vitamins, minerals and fiber, making it an excellent nutrient-dense snack for your dog. Do feed pineapples in small amounts to your dog as too much of it may lead to nausea and diarrhea.

08 - watermelon

Watermelon is a very healthy treat for dogs, as it is low in calories and packed with nutrients, such as vitamin A and vitamin C. Do remove the rind and seeds which could be a choking hazard, and may cause digestive problems in dogs.

Apples are a great source of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and are high in fiber. Apple seeds on the other hand, is toxic for dogs as they contain cyanide, a chemical that can be poisonous in large amounts. Always remove the seeds before feeding apples to your dog.

10 - strawberries

Strawberries make a healthy treat for dogs, as they are low in calories but high in nutrients, antioxidants and fiber.

16 - chicken, beef, turkey & pork

Cooked meat is an excellent source of proteins for dogs. However the meat to be cooked plain without salt and seasonings which are harmful for dogs. Lean meat is best and avoid processed meats such as ham and bacon as they are often extremely high in salt, which can be harmful to dogs.

17 - bread

Plain white or whole grain bread is safe for most dogs to eat as an occasional treat.
